Wieder zurück aus dem Urlaub bleibt man natürlich nicht zu Hause hocken, wenn es Wochenende wird, schließlich gibt es auch in Victoria noch viele interessante Orte zu sehen...

Back from vacation, of course, nobody remains sitting at home, when it’s week end. There are much more interesting places in Victoria to be visited...

Diesmal haben wir am anderen Ende der Great Ocean Road angefangen und uns das Maretime Museum in Warrnambool, angesehen, ein historisch nach gestalteter Fischereihafen auf dem Gelände zweier Leuchttürme, die selbst - sich an einem Standort befindend - bereits eine Besonderheit darstellen.
  Die Walsaison in Warrnambool ist leider vorbei, wir haben uns jedoch noch ein paar schöne Plätze an der Steilküste angesehen und wir sahen den Anker und eine Kanone eines an der Küste gesunkenen Schiffes, die wir beim ersten Mal wegen der Flut nicht entdecken konnten.

This time we started at the opposite end of the Great Ocean Road and visited the Maritime Museum in Warrnambool, a historical fish harbour on the estate of two light houses, which are - located at the same place - already something special, as well.
  Suddenly the wale season in Warrnambool has already finished, however we saw a few nice places at the step coast as well as the anchor and a cannon of a ship, which sunk at the coast. The both remembrances were not visible for us because of the water level last time.

Meinen Geburtstag habe ich diesmal in einer indisch-deutsch-australisch-amerikanischen Runde gefeiert. Wir waren Mittag essen in essen in einem Lokal mit angeschlossener Brauerei.

This time I celebrated my birthday in an Indian-German-Australian-American round. We were at lunch in an restaurant running it’s own tiny brewery.

Weihnachtszeit im Sommer, so ist’s nun mal auf der Südhalbkugel. Melbouenes Straßen sind noch voller, als sonst und der Weihnachtsschmuck ziert sommerliche Straßen. Im Team deutet sich eine Art Wachwechsel an, die einen kommen, die anderen gehen. Für die meisten von uns geht es in den Weihnachtsurlaub.

Christmas time in the summer, so is it on the southern hemisphere. The streets of Melbourne are even more crowded and the Christmas decoration decorates summer-like streets. In the team there is going on a kind of changing the guards, some leave, some come here. The most of us are leaving for Christmas.

Am ersten Wochenende nach dem Urlaub in Deutschland, wieder in Melbourne, habe ich eine Bootsfahrt auf dem Yarra unternommen, leider nur flussaufwärts wegen der hohen Flut an diesem Tage. Den Rest des Sonntagnachmittages habe ich mir eine Ausstellung zur Geschichte des bewegten Bildes angesehen. Besonders bemerkenswert dabei: ein Filmschnipsel aus der Nad-Kelly-Story von 1906 wurde gezeigt. Wie schon erwähnt, war er der berühmteste Häftling des Melbourner Gefängnisses.

At the 1st weekend after the vacation in Germany, back in Melbourne, I took a boat tour on the Yarra. Due to the high tide this day, it was possible the river upwards, only. The remaining Sunday afternoon I saw an exhibition about the history of moving pictures. Especially remarkable was a film snipped of the Nad-Kelly-Story from 1906. As mentioned earlier, he was the most famous prisoner of the historic Melbourne Jail.

Am 26.01. feiert Australien seine Unabhängigkeit von Großbritanien, die es 1901 errang. Es ist jedoch bis heute Mitglied im British Commonwealth of Nations und hat die Queen als Staatsoberhaupt.
In nahen Park präsentierten sich an diesem schönen Sommertag die Vereine und Organisationen - vom Hundesport über die Feuerwehr bis zu den Oldtimer-Fans. Mit dem Teil der Flussfahrt, der flussabwärts geht, habe ich den Nachmittag komplettiert.

On the 26th of January Australia celebrates its independence from Great Britain, it achieved in 1901. It is, however, member of the British Commonwealth of Nations up to today and the Queen is its head of state.
In the park nearby the associations and organizations presented themselves at this nice summer day, the dog sports, the fire brigade, the old-timer fans and much, much more. I completed the afternoon by doing the cruise downwards the river, I missed last time.

Inzwischen geht das Leben in Melbouene weiter: Einkehr im Pub, und Selvas Geburtstag und ein kleiner, aber beeindruckender Weltuntergang...

...Die ABC meldet 100 km/h Wind, golfballgroße Hagelkörner und Warnungen der Polizei, in die überfluteten Straßen zu fahren.

...The ABC reports 100 kms per hour wind, golf ball sized hail stones and warnings to drive trough the flooded streets, issued by the police.

Auch die Hinterlassenschaften des schlimmsten Unwetters waren bald beseitigt, so dass Melbourne für das Wein- und Lebensmittenfestival eine lange Tafel auf der Straße aufbaut. Chris spendiert zudem eine seiner Freitagsrunden.
Zum Tag der offenen Tür haben wir uns das Parlamentsgebäude von Victoria angesehen, in Deutschland vergleichbar mit einem Landtag, nur eben echt britisch alt-ehrwürdig: Es ist eines der ältesten öffentlichen Gebäude, Planung und Bau begannen gleich nach der Gründung der Kolonie Victoris 1855.

Even what the worst hail storm left behind, was cleaned up, so Melbourne could put a long desk in place on the street to celebrate the Melbourne Wine and Food Festival. Besides this Chris pays for one of his Friday’s rounds.
At its open door day we visited the parliament building of Victoria, comparable to an Landtag in Germany, but really British old-honourable: It is one of the oldest public building in Melbouene. It’s Planning and construction begun right after the foundation of the colony Victoria in 1855.

Wenn man Schumi & Co. Schon mal vor der Haustür hat, sieht man sie sich natürlich auch an: der Große Preis von Australien fand in Melbourne im Albert-Park statt, keine 20 Minuten zu Fuß von der Wohnung.
Dem Formel-1-Rennen gingen die "Mini-Challange", ein Rennen mit Rover Minies, ein Super Car- und ein Tourenwagenrennen voraus. Es gab Kampfjet- und Formationsflüge in den Pausen. Auch der A380 samt einer Eskorte flog über den Park

Having Schumi (Michael Schumacher) and companions just in front of the door, of course one goes to see them. The Grant Prix of Australia took place in Melbourne’s Albert Park, not even 20 minutes by feet away from the flat.
The "Mini Challenge", a race of Rover Minies, a Super Car- and a touring car race went on first. There were fighter jet and aerobatic flights in the breaks. An A 380 jet and its escord flew over the park as well.
