Perth ist eine der am isoliertest liegenden Großstädte der Welt: 2700 km von Melbourne, der nächsten Großstadt, entfernt. 1828 kamen die ersten europäischen Siedler hier her, 1856 wurde Perth eine Stadt. Heute ist Perth die Hauptstadt Westaustraliens und hat ca. 1,6 Mio. Einwohner, das sind bereits drei Viertel der 2,2 Mio. Einwohner des ganzen Bundesstaates. Westaustralien hat damit 10% der Einwohner Australiens, nimmt jedoch ein Drittel seines Territoriums ein und 25% der Exporteinnahmen kommen von hier (Rohstoffe, Landwirtschaftsprodukte).
  Im Hinterland von Perth wird in einem Korngürtel meist Weizen angebaut, es folgen Schaf- und Ziegenhaltung weiter im Innland. Heu wird, wenn es Spitzenqualität hat, nach Japan exportiert. Die Ziegen und Schafe werden lebend in die arabischen Länder verschifft, auf der Reise gefüttert mit Pellets aus dem minderwertigen Heu.

Im Südwesten Australiens findet man Naturdenkmale, die auch auf einem anderen Planeten sein könnten: Pinnacle Dessert und den Wafe Stoone.
  Letzterer besteht aus 2,7 Mrd. Jahre altem Granit und wird auf interessante Weise als Wasserspeicher für eine nahe Stadt benutzt, man sammelt Regenwasser mit Hilfe einer Mauer un den Fels. Grundwasser konnte man nicht nutzen: Im Boden des ganzen Gebietes ist jede Menge Salz enthalten, das in Salzseen auskristallisiert, die man auf dem ganzen Wege von Perth dorthin findet.
  Aus einer Schicht Kalkstein, die durch Calcrite abgeschlossen wird, bestehen die "Pinacls". Calcrite ist ein Gemisch aus Sand und Kies, das durch Kalziumkarbonat zementiert wird und die darunterliegenden Schichten schützt. Die einst komplette Schicht Kalkstein wurde durch Wurzeln und Ausspülen in Teile gebrochen. Diese gerieten unter eine Sandschicht und erscheinen nun wieder in der "Pinacle Dessert" an der Oberfläche.

Südlich von Perth befindet sich das Weinanbaugebiet am Margeret River. Drei Prozent des australischen Weines kommen von hier, Spitzenqualität wird versichert, da das Klima die Trauben gleichmäßig wachsen lässt. Die Temperatur beträgt ganzjährig 18 - 26 Grad, es gibt nur wenige kühlere oder wärmere Tage.
  Der Nachmittag dieses Ausflugstages brachte noch einen Besuch am Südwestende Australiens, dem Kap Leeuwin, wo sich Indischer und Südlicher Ozean treffen.

Perth is the most isolated big city in the world, 2700 km away Melbourne, the next capital city. 1828 the 1st European settlers came here, since 1859 it is a town. Today Perth is the capital of Western Australia and has got 1.6 Mill. inhabitamts. They are already 75% of the people of the entire federal state. So Westaustralia has 10% of Australia’s population, takes 33% of its territory and 25% of the export revenues are generated here (mining, products of agriculture).
  In the country in the back of Perth grain gets grown, most of it is wheat. Breading sheep and goats follows in the inner country. Hay gets exported to Japan in case it has high quality. The sheep and goats are shipped as living animals to the Arab countries, feed with pellets from made from minor quality hay.

In the Southwest of Australia there are memorials of nature, which could be found on another planet as well, the Pinnacle Dessert and the Wafe Stone.
  The last one consists of 2.7 billion years old granite and is used by a town nearby as a water depot in an interesting manner. They build a wall around the stone to keep the rain water back. It was impossible to use ground water: In the soil of the entire area is contained a lot of salt, crystallizing out in salt lakes, you can find all the way from Perth there.
  The "pinnacles" consist of lime stone, covered by a layer of calcrite. Calcrite is a composition of sand and grit, cemented by calcium carbonate to a cover, protecting the layers below. The once complete layer of lime stone was broken down into parts by roots and washing it out. They became hidden by a sand layer and are now appearing again at the surface in the Pinnacle Dessert.

In the south of Perth is situated the wine area at the Margeret river. It provides 3% of Australia’s wine production, but - as assured to us - with the best quality, because the climate lets the grapes grow constantly. The temperature remains in the range of 18 to 26 centigrade in the entire year, there are only a few cooler or warmer days.
  The afternoon of this day trip brought us to the south western end of Australia, Cape Leeuwine, where Indian and Great Southern Ocean meet.
